The architect was commissioned to do this project by civil engineer and building contractor, Frantisek Muller.  The Villa was built in Prague, in Czech Republic 1928-30. This house is a prime example of early modern architecture and the use of raumplan. Raumplan is a planning method which is based on isolated rooms that are dynamic in section. The method emphasizes the scale each room and often times they are at different levels, therefore steps are required to access them.  The concept of the villa was to express Loos’ ideas of economy and functionality. Raumplan is spatial and clearly shown in Villa Muller through multi-level parts of each room; which hit at their importance, functionality, and symbolism. Stuart Jacome Arch 211- M11 Prof. Khorsandi Blog Post Rufer House This structure is a house for Josef and Marie Rufer designed by Adolf Loos in 1922 was built in Schliessmanngasse which is located in Vienna, Austria this is a densely populated urban area with many residential buildings, but also large areas of forest.   This house exemplifies a cube having an internal space of 10m by 10m the general layout  through the home is exterior walls that are load bearing leaving the interior walls to partition space as a central column runs through the house hiding the plumbing and also acting as a framing device on the second floor. This central column is a grounding agent, connecting the entire house and acting as a point of reference. Villa Müller       Villa Müller is a home built in Prauge for a doctor a his family. It was designed by Architect Adolf Loos based on his concept of “Raumplan”, and is known to be his best example of this design tactic. The Raumplan design was based on the idea that spaces do not need to be defined solely by walls, and that both ceiling height and floor level can be strategically manipulated to create interesting and connected spaces that maintain distinct boundaries. The variation in height was based on the idea that the level of privacy a room needs, should be directly related to height of the ceiling; meaning, a more private space would have a lower ceiling, and a more public space would have a higher ceiling. The house was designed for Josef and Mar ie   Rufer.   Josef Rufer was an Austrian musicologist.  This house was considered to be the first example of   Raumplan   which is a planning method based on discreet rooms. The house is considered like a cube with internal space of 10m by 10m. The exterior walls are load bearing which leaves the interior walls to partition space.
