Villa Schwob is deisgned by Charles-Edouard
Jeanneret-Gris who is also knowned as Le Corbusier. Le Corbusier is famous for
his five points of architecture, which are roof grade, horizontal/ ribbon
windows, free façade, free plan and pilots. Some of his famous works are Eilien
Gray’s house, house E-1027, villa Savoye at Poissy, Villa Schwob and etc.
Villa Schwob is symmetrical work of Le
Corbusier. It has double height spaces. It was built in La Chaux-de-Fonds,
Switzerland in 1916 for a watchmaker. Villa Schwob can be considered as one of
his many villas in Europe. It is supported by four interior columns which also
created more open spaces inside. The prominent part of this house is the living
room. The living room has large vertical window that spreads both floors of the
house. Le Corbusier elaborates Purism through this project. He not only created
this villa with great design but also created mathematically. There are
geometric shapes throughout the plan of this villa. Villa’s foundation has half
cube with semi-circles.
